FARMHOUSE HOME EXTERIOR STYLE

Farmhouse-style homes have been around for centuries, originating in Europe before becoming popular in America in the 1700s. Rectangular in shape and usually two stories, the first American farmhouses were often built by the families who lived in them, so they were designed to be practical and to allow for additions to accommodate growing families.

Like traditional American farmhouses, modern farmhouse styles incorporate signature design elements such as large, covered porches and simple, neutral color palettes. Modern farmhouses also showcase exterior features such as vertical board and batten siding, metal roofing, and lots of windows.
